Round Two of the AGT Southern Tour Promises Hot Racing Action
By Tony Febles

July 27, 2007 -- The ground pounding V8 powered, tube chassis, composite bodied American sports cars of the American GT Professional Road Racing Association take to the world famous 3.7 mile, 17 turn concrete and asphalt “long course” permanent road circuit of Sebring International Raceway in “The Shoot-Out At Sebring” on August 11 – 12, 2007 in Sebring Florida as Round Two of the Southern Tour and Round Five of the Inter-America’s Grand Championship Points Series. These fire-breathing normally aspirated engines put out upwards of 800 horsepower and the cars are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 200 mph as top AGT series drivers from across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic battle it out wheel to wheel – door to door in quest of taking the checkered flag.

Well known race car driver Tony Ave of North Carolina throws his hat into the ring as he is signed up to make his debut in the AGT in Sebring driving the Tony Ave / Bebee Racing C6 Corvette that Tony built for Bebee in his N.C. race shop. Ave has been tearing up the SCCA National GT1 circuit with this car over the past few months and has clearly stated his intentions in entering the Shoot-Out At Sebring – “I am coming to win” he said. Current AGT series leader is Edison Lluch Jr of Puerto Rico driving the Coors Light Corvette for the El Tuque racing Team – a family effort of father Edison Sr in the Don Q Rum Corvette and son Edison Jr. The elder Lluch, Edison Sr is a two time series champion and is this year’s defending champion while his son, following in his father’s footsteps is currently leading this year’s championship points hunt. Over the past few seasons the Lluch’s have shown dominance in winning, now with the series running the Southern Tour and the entry of new teams and drivers – is this soon to change? There is only one way to find out and that is to wait for the green flag to drop on the Shoot-Out At Sebring and see who can capture the win – will it be a continued show of strength from the El Tuque team under the Puerto Rican flag, or will it be on of the new series teams entering under the flag of the Dominican, or will it be one of the racers competing under the colors of the red, white and blue as top teams from the United States all compete in this International racing competition for a series win.

Teams expected to compete include the father and son team of Ken and Jordan Bupp from the United States, Terry Giles and his Powerhouse Racing Team also from the United States, Edison Sr. and Edison Jr of Puerto Rico and Mark Shaffer of the United States. Also expected to take the green are Tony Ave of the U.S. and Jon Levy also running for the United States. Come out and cheer for your favorite team and stay tuned to www.AmericanGT.com for the latest news on the race.
