BMW CCA Club Racing Revises Yokohama Spec E36™ Series Rules
By Mark Dadgar, BMW CCA Club Racing

Greenville, SC (Sept. 14. 2007) -- Taking advantage of the mid-year rules change process, BMW CCA Club Racing today announced refinements to the rules for Yokohama Spec E36™, the club's popular new spec race class. Designed to produce close racing in a fun environment, Spec E36 cars are relatively inexpensive to prepare and maintain.

"Spec E36 has been off to a great start since its launch at the start of the 2007 season," said BMW CCA Club Racing Chairman Mike Mills. "But the first racers to build cars for the series have provided us with some solid feedback and we've chosen to adopt much of it to improve the experience for all of the Spec E36 racers going forward."

New changes to the rules include the addition of 17" wheels through the end of 2008, at which point the 17" wheels will become required, the specification of a spec rain tire, the mandating of a 3.15 rear end ratio beginning with the 2009 season, and a variety of other small changes to improve reliability and safety.

"Our racers spoke and we listened," Mills continued. "As a result, we worked with our series partner, Yokohama Tire Corporation, to address some of their main concerns. Expect lots of exciting racing as a result!"

The Spec E36™ class is designed around a set of 1992-1998 6-cylinder BMW 3-series (non-M3) race cars which are prepared to a uniform level. The modifications required or allowed are intended to produce a fun, fast racing vehicle that feels like a true race car yet remains relatively inexpensive to prepare and maintain.
