The solitary state of the dreadfully hot summer has finally been shattered by the churning of dirt under the tires of FRX and CRS RallyX racers. Antioch 2 is the first event of the back half of the series. The day seemed like it would hold a bleak turnout but 53 competitors pulled up to line for some racing. They all enjoyed a range of constant sweepers through a large figure eight; they all hated negotiating the paper clip hairpin; it was a demanding course that drove us hard. Once again the course designer, Peter Cowan has out done himself.
Through all the slippery, muddy runs and dusty reruns it was a hoot to get dirty with our friends. About eight new racers showed up and enjoyed their down and dirty time with the rest. Subarus once again dominated the AWD classes and made for a special scene watching them slip through the courses' twists. Antioch is now gone for the year but we will return next year. The heat of the summer fever has broken, now let's all go out and play!
A special note was made by a spectator: "I'm impressed at the comradery that all of you have. People that are racing against each other will help one another. There was a guy with a blown tire that got assistance from another and a competitor trailering his opponent's car for him even after he lost to the guy that broke. You won't find these kinds of relationships in other forms of racing."
Upcoming FormulaRallyX races include Johnson Valley V on October 21 and the Laughlin International Rally and Motorsports Festival on November 10, 11. More information about FormulaRallyX can be found at www.formularallyx.com. |
