034Motorsport Enjoy Top Result at Long Beach Super Lap Battle
By Christian Miller, 034Motorsport

LONG BEACH, CA -- Renowned tuning shop 034Motorsport, respected for their reliable high-power Audis, were proud to be a part of the Primedia Super Lap Battle at Long Beach, one of the premier support events to the final Champ Car race.

“It’s an amazing atmosphere,” remarked 034’s driver Christian Miller. “This weekend is one of the biggest racing weekends in America, and we were so excited to show our stuff in front of so many fans!” Indeed, with the weekend being the last-ever Champ Car race, and with Danica Patrick having won her first race at Motegi the night before, the grandstands were absolutely packed.

This was good news for the Primedia event, which was by invitation only. The 034 team were pleased to have had their Audi A4 included on the list, and were keen to take a class win.

“We had some great tires, provided by Continental, for our run at the ‘Street’ class. Unfortunately, no other cars in this class were able to attend, so we switched to ‘Limited’ to have a little more fun,” noted Miller.

That made the racing a real crap shoot, with Miller up against other teams running tires that were pretty much race-spec rubber. The result was actually better than one would expect: a 2nd place in class.

“The Continentals were great, but no match for the Toyos, which are race tires,” laughed Christian. “The Contis are a street tire, and so to have them as competitive as they were is pretty amazing!.”

In the end, Miller missed out on the top spot in class by just eight-tenths of a second. That’s a testament to not just the tires, but some great driving by Miller and amazing preparation by the 034 crew. The team’s Audi features the first known transplant of Volkswagen’s VR6 engine into an A4 for road racing use, and showcases the driveline and chassis development of 034Motorsport.

The 034 Audi is no stranger to the podium, having been first in the 2007 Eurotuner GP, first in last year’s final Redline Time Attack at Laguna Seca, and third in Primedia’s 2007 Super Lap Battle.

“We had a great time at Long Beach, and think it’s a great venue for Time Attack-style racing,” said 034 President Javad Shazdi. “The fans were really excited to see us and were so enthusiastic. I hope we’ll be back there again next year!”
