May 28, 2007 - The winter cobwebs were shaken off and left in the dust last weekend at Mid Ohio.
Friday's testing sessions yielded promising times for the races ahead. Arjun Soundararajan and Gautam Pathak drove the #54 car in J-Prepared and Tim Smith with co-driver Doug Thoms competed in the #22 Spec E36 car. This event also highlighted the team's new sponsor, BMW Cleveland.
Saturday's qualifying session showcased the team's improvements during the off season with Arjun taking pole for J-Prepared with a solid 2.5 second gap, and Tim Smith out-qualifying his closest competitor by .2 seconds to steal pole for Spec E36.
The Sprint race on Saturday went smoothly from the start with Arjun holding the lead in J-Prepared through the checkered flag. Tim Smith battled with the Spec E36 field during the 30 minute run, earning him his first win of the season.
Qualifying on Sunday set the tone for the 90-minute enduro that afternoon as Gautam took pole for J-Prepared with a two-second lead. Doug Thoms was set to start third in class, but was confident that his setup would work to his advantage. Gautam started the race and led for his 50-minute stint. After a flawless pit stop, Arjun took over and continued to hold the class lead. Gautam commented that "the Alcon brakes held up brilliantly during the entire session - They definitely gave me a late-braking edge."
Arjun and Tim took the checkered flag for the second time that weekend in J-Prepared and Spec E36 for UUC Motorwerks.
