Here is the working design for the course at the end of the month. Specific cones are not shown as the layout often gets sorted out at the last min. Its possible there will be slight variations from whats shown once setup starts.

Looks like a very challenging course - not only for the drivers, but for the starter as well. Exclamation Whoever is holding the green flag had better keep a sharp eye on the cross over so they don't send a car out too early... Shocked

We should be able to send a car right after the previous one crosses the crossover. I am guessing that will be about 25-30 seconds between cars. That means we would need about 4hr of hot track time to run our normal number of cars.

Jason, I didn't know you had such a personal vendetta against early apexers! Smile

Looks like a challenge.

Upon further review, I do have one suggestion to improve the course. Not the course actually, but the trailer. Put it at an angle so that the workers can more easily see the far end of the course.

i like most of the course but i think the finish should be changed. Like the last few BMW CCA events the finish in it's form will require braking prior to the finish line to make the tur after the finish. People will try to take it closer and closer to the finish line. In my personal openion finish like that ruins most of good courses since that is the last thing you remember. The best finish is the one where you are on throttle though the finish line and have to brake later. If it is at all possible, make the finish line after the apex of the turn.

Sorry, i won;t be at teh event, but this is just some constructive critisizm Smile

If anyone has feedback let me know. What did you like or not like about the course? I'll probably start drawing up the next course in a few days. The goal is to make these events a challenge for the drivers and as much fun as possible for everyone. So let me know what you thought or what can be improved.

Personally I think it was one of the best courses in a while! A lot of the corners were nice and wide, allowing you to really think about your line...

I really enjoyed the course between the start and finish lines. While it was wide, it was still challenging to find the right line through many of the corners. I could consider the ideal course to have elements of both our March and April courses. The March course rewarded handling and precision more, and the April course allowed the faster cars to get up some speed. But I would drive courses like the April course all season long and love it.

My biggest complaints with our courses over the last 2 or 3 years are:

1. Standing starts - I hate them. They require you to abuse your driveline to get a good start, or if you choose not to abuse the car, then you have a slow start. I'd like to see the starting line far enough after the first turn so that everyone can get a good rolling start.

B. We need more room to lose speed after the finish line. It is a lot more natural to be accelerating, or at least on the throttle, when crossing the finish. Having to do tight manuvers and braking all while approaching the finish makes it difficult, not to mention more likely that someone is going to overcook the finish and take out a timing light, or the time slips worker.

Well you asked. Smile

agreed. i liked it a lot as well. i've never shifted into 1st before and found it quite fascinating to compare parking it and putting it into first vs trudging through in 2nd on the approach to the first straight.

i really like the crossover. makes the course seem much bigger than it does without the crossover. also lets you build up some speed and the associated problems of getting rid of it in a hurry...

the only thing i would add would be some elements which would exercise middle of 2nd car control. such as after the slolam from 1st autox of 2005. there was a tight left followed by a long arc only defined by an apex cone and the 110 degree right hander following. gives you room to throttle steer, etc through there without bumping up against the outside cones. then the next corner was relatively high speed with an apex cone followed by short straight and a 90 to the left. i thought those elements were nice for finding your own line using whatever weight transfer you and your car can muster.

thank you for posting the course before the event. i found having the preview made me look forward to the event more than usual.

So whats everyones opinion on standing starts? I get mixed feedback on this one. A lot of people think its fun to launch the car while others worry about hurting the car.

Currently we are someone constrained on the start and finish by the distance from the trailer at which we can place the timer. This makes roling starts and flying finishes more difficult.
