How do I choose a good Digital SLR camera for sports photography? My main area of intrest is taking action shots and sports photos. Can anyone help or give me some suggestions to what I should be looking at? I'm planning to buy, but I don't have an unlimited amount of funds, if you know what I mean. As a matter of fact, I'm kind of strapped. Any suggestions on the best deal with greatest performance?

Willows, CA David Bongiovanni won the season opener of the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA on March 9, 2008 driving the same Mitsubishi Evo that Dave Brown used to win the 2006 Driver's Championship. Rod Rojas, driving the Molecule/GoProCamera Chevy Cobalt SS, finished in second place. Curt Simmons managed to take third place in the Sunnyvale Dodge SRT-4 after nearly destroying the car in a huge crash in qualifying.

Simmons grabbed the pole position in qualifying thanks to a great team effort in the Saturday qualifying session. Many teams could not make the session due to its early time slot but the team used the session to put in a terrific lap which left them at the top of the charts all weekend. Bob Scheer set the best qualifying performance for a Mini Cooper S at Thunderhill with the top qualifying spot in the Sunday session which was just a tick slower than Simmons' time. That meant that the Mini would start in second place next to the defending Champion. Starting third was Pete Bovenberg in the MBO Motorsports Honda Civic Si who also managed a great time in the Saturday session. Bongiovanni was fourth fastest in the Mitsubishi Evo but was hopeful that the AWD would launch him up at the standing start. Rojas would start in fifth spot in the Chevy Cobalt SS.

At the start, everyone did a great job and Bongiovanni did not get the explosive launch that he was hoping for. Scheer and Simmons were neck and neck going into the first turn but Simmons had the inside line and took the early lead. Scheer held on to second place but had Bovenberg filling his rear view mirror. Bovenberg was trying very hard to get by Scheer because he was being pressured by Bongiovanni. Rojas's Cobalt was right there with the Mitsubishi Evo and was not losing contact with the lead pack. And coming up very quickly after starting in the back was David Vodden in the Butte College Honda S2000. The top six cars were separated by only four seconds after the first few laps.

Coming out of turn 9 Scheer got loose and nearly spun. That caused the Mini to go from second to sixth position. With Simmons still leading, Bovenberg was now in second place which meant that the two MBO Motorsport teammates were now first and second. Behind them were Bongiovanni, Rojas, Vodden and Scheer.

Simmons had a two second lead but started to drop back and the gap was closing with the top six cars now separated by only one second. Bovenberg took advantage of that and went underneath the Dodge to take the lead going into Turn 1. Simmons got held back behind some lapped traffic and in two turns went from first to fifth. The competition was so close at the top that one small mistake meant that you would lose a lot of positions.

Bovenberg's lead lasted less than a lap as he went a little wide at the exit of Turn 6 which opened the door for Bongiovanni, Rojas and Simmons. So it was obvious that with such close competition, victory would go to the driver that made the least number of mistakes.

A full course caution soon came out for an accident behind them which ended the race under caution. It was unfortunate because there would have undoubtedly been more passing had the course stayed green.

It was a very exciting start for the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship. There were a lot of new teams and new faces and you could just feel the excitement in the air. The competition was so close that it looks like anyone has a chance to score a win and with even more cars planning to attend the next round, anything can happen. But for now, Bongiovannni is at the top of the charts with a great performance.

Top Rookie For the first time, the two top spots on the podium were by rookies. Bongiovanni and Rojas are both rookies who beat out the veterans.

LeMans Karting Fremont Driver Improvement Award Rich Woo, driving the Gogogear.com Acura Integra R won the $200 LeMans Karting Fremont Driver Improvement Award. Woo finished ninth on route to collecting the award.
Goodsport Racing Corporation will return to the United States Touring Car Championship in 2008 in an effort to repeat past success in NASA's premier professional road racing series. For almost ten years the USTCC series has attracted professional teams and factory-backed cars, making it one of the most exciting touring car series in the country.

2008 will mark the second season of competition for Goodsport Racing in USTCC. Goodsport Racing achieved a season championship in 2006 with a 2004 Mitsubishi Evolution. In 2008 the team will campaign both the 2004 Mitsubishi Evolution and a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. The Lancer made its debut at the 2007 25 Hours of Thunderhill, and with the addition of a turbocharger to the 2.0 liter engine, will be well prepared to compete with the other cars in the series.

Drivers David Bongiovanni and Steve Krshul will return as drivers for Goodsport Racing. Bongiovanni, a six-time NASA champion and past winner of the 25 hours of Thunderhill, is pleased to be joined by former Spec-E30 driver Steve Krshul. Having had much success in the 2007 Spec-E30 series with a 2nd place in the season driver's championship, Krshul is looking forward to his first full season of professional racing.

Race preparation for the vehicles includes mechanical preparation by FIA/Method4, full coil-over suspensions with race-tuned geometry by Robispec, brakes by E-brakes.com, and data acquisition by Innovate Technology. Additional preparation includes cage fabrication by Evil Genius Racing, machine work by Amaral's Engine Parts and Machine of Fremont, CA, and parts and service from San Rafael Mitsubishi.

Goodsport Racing campaigns a fleet of Mitsubishi vehicles in a variety of road racing series. Both arrive-and-drive and sponsorship opportunities are available at very reasonable rates for NASA, SCCA, and Grand-Am events.
By USTCC PR/Media Services Team

February 15, 2008/Richmond, Ca. - The U.S. Touring Car Championship announced Monday its 2008 Cash Prize Money Structure.

The winner of each USTCC race will receive $1000 in cash prize money and up to $4000 in value including contingency prizes. Total value may actually vary or can be much higher pending on contingency eligibility. The actual $1000 cash prize will be based on a 15-car field (not including fun runs). A 10 to 14-car field start will slightly drop the cash prize to $750 for the winner. Last place finisher will still received a guaranteed $300. Details and pay out charts will be made available to competitors upon their registration.

The new structure is designed to strengthen the incentive for drivers and teams to compete in the USTCC series. And hopefully in the long run it will draw and increase competition interest, entry and eventually car field. The series' target is to create a baseline or foundation program designed to eventually increase the cash prize monies as the both series and car field grows.

"It's not big bucks like people would like to think or expect as it may appear, but this is definitely a big statement and shows the commitment of the (USTCC) series to its teams and drivers for the overall growth of the series," said Ryan Cristobal, USTCC PR Team. "A number of returning drivers and teams have already registered and a few new ones already have expressed interest. It should be another exciting year, but there's plenty of more work to be done and announcements to be made. I can't wait for the 2008 USTCC season to begin." Cristobal concluded.

CANYON MOTORSPORTS TO COMPETE IN 2008 US TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON

Canyon Country, CA, 02/04/2008 - Eager to begin a second season of NASA professional racing, Canyon Motorsports is proud to announce their entry into the 2008 season of the United States Touring Car Championship.

Bob Scheer will again pilot the Canyon Motorsports MINI Cooper S, one of two MINI entrants confirmed for the 2008 season. The Canyon Motorsports MINI Cooper S underwent further race preparation over the winter season at the hands of Steve's Auto Clinic, master MINI tuner Hubie Fuh, and crew chief Dan Pacheco at DEP Race Prep, with a primary focus on improving engine output and reliability of the supercharged 1.6L powerplant. Handling and braking, both strong suits of the MINI ever since John Cooper first set his targets on winning the Monte Carlo Rally, have been optimized further with assistance from Monrovia, CA based Ireland Engineering Motorsports.

The US Touring Car Championship kicks off the 2008 season on March 8-9 at one of California's most technical road courses, Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, CA, a course that favors the strong braking and cornering prowess of the MINI Cooper S. With its balanced rulebook and varied road courses nationwide, the US Touring Car Championship is one of the most relevant sports car racing competitions in America. For photos, videos, event schedule, and more, check out the USTCC website at http://www.ustcc.com.

About Canyon Motorsports - Founded in 2006, Canyon Motorsports combines the resources of the best of the MINI motorsports community, pitting the venerable MINI Cooper S against the performance giants of the US Touring Car Championship for its second USTCC season. Bob Scheer, Canyon Motorsports' founder and driver, draws from years of experience in various forms of motorsports that range from winning the Redline MINI Challenge, to victories in American iron with a 1969 Chevy Camaro in the Vintage Auto Racing Association's A-Sedan Championship, all the way down to 100cc KT-100 karts with the Willow Springs Kart Club.

We are expanding our successful club enduro racing effort for 2007, adding either a second Improved Touring B VW Golf or a 3-series BMW, built for the new Improved Touring R class. We are serious about our endurance racing, as the anticipated schedule will include the longest events on the east coast:

Homestead, FL - 12 hours
Summit Point, WV - 12 hours
Nelson Ledges, OH - 24 hours
Virginia International Raceway, VA - 13 hours

Details of our most recent endurance racing adventures can be found at...

http://it2.evaluand.com/gti/summit06.php
http://it2.evaluand.com/gti/summit05.php

We have the flexibility to tailor a package to meet your racing goals - one-off or series rentals, fractional or full race car ownership, and even licensing and driver development programs.
