Anyone familiar with a good mechanic with the old school air cooled flat sixes? A solid mechanic who knows about mating the aluminum cylinders to the magnesium crank case? Preferably on the west coast. Appreciate any insight on this. Hard to find the mechanics who did this type of work these days. Engine runs solid, but leaks oil like a sieve, more than a normal 911 engine. Also puffing blue smoke.
I need new gaskets and rings for sure, may need new bearings when the case is cracked. I already have the 930 style timing chain and tensioner.
Mechanichal fuel pump is being rebuilt, as well as a new synchro mesh for first gear on the 901/7 transmission.
Appreciate any and all help provided.
Just had a bad blow out with Drivewire.com
After getting the wrong size brake caliper from them exchanged for the wrong size axles (over a period of 4 months) I got only $500 of the $607 I spent. The called it a restocking fee, even though they screwed up the process the whole way. Quite the stonewall.
None of the PN#'s I purchased, and they list, are compatible with S Models. They say it's the right part for that era 911. The axles were an 1/8th of an inch too long, and the CV joints were too narrow to fit. the brake caliper mountings were off by a half an inch or so. They swore up and down that all the parts were interchangeable through the 911 line, and that isn't the case. These people don't do their homework, only read computer screens and rely on Afe, Loebro, and the like to be accurate while swearing up and down that they are correct in their parts distribution.
These people are incompetent, and they are thieves. Watch your back when dealing with them. I think I'll be taking my business to Pelican Parts from now on.
I though I would pass on my 4 month $107 dollar experience for your enetertainment and future purchase experience.
Hello,
New to Justracing.com. I have a 335xi, and will be restoring a 1969 911S this spring to summer. It belonged to my father who passed away. It is in great shape, and mostly original with no body rust so I don't think I'll be racing it. It has sentimental value as well. Hopefully you guys have some experience with restoring older cars. I already found tires to fit the rare 15" fuchs that came with it, and a guy that can work on mechanical fuel injection systems, woo hoo. It's a start
We have had tremendous results from our SCCA S-944 class here in Arizona, about 20+ cars per event. If interested in how to start a regional class contact me. We have alll the rules formated in acceptable SCCA form.

Beyond the requisite boost in horsepower to an estimated 480, the next 911 Turbo, due in just over a year, features the long-awaited dual-clutch automatic transmission. With weight barely increased, the all-wheel-drive Turbo will blast from 0 to 60 mph in well under four seconds. Wider fenders house the widest tires ever fitted to a 911, and a multitude of air intakes accentuate the fast and furious proportions.see some cool Porsche pictures here http://www.claridgesltd.com/index.jsp?cp=carreraturbo
